Courtyard of Forgotten Memories, 2022
Gerald Moore Gallery
London
The site-specific installation Courtyard of Forgotten Memories reassembles the outline of a tropical Patio of skewed angles, a space for contemplation and intimacy of what feels like a past time. An organic mantle made of banana leaves in decay works as the glu and the common ground for the fabric covered structure forming the shape of the courtyard. Hanging from the structure, a series of small ink drawings combined with text on paper, suggest fragments of the story of a person who remembers from before the time of being born.
The work offers poignant reflections on the passage of time, the relationship between the built environment and nature, as well as notions of home and belonging. In this way, Courtyard of Forgotten Memories invites the mind to wander in what recalls the ecosystem of someone's memories.
